Mercy

Dark goblin blood crept towards Theodoruk’s heavy boots.  His expression was hard to read, but his eyes were like stone as he crouched over the wounded goblin shaman.  The creature wheezed, drawing shallow breaths.  Its bony hands were clutching at a large pendant with the symbol of the evil god Tiamat.

“I am the Hand of Pelor”, said Theodoruk softly as he took off his metal gauntlet and extended his hand to the goblin.  “Your past sins will be forgiven, but you must embrace Pelor.  Will you renounce Tiamat and all her evil ways?”

The goblin grimaced in pain at the name of Pelor.  He gazed into the Paladin’s eyes and after a pause shrieked “Never!”  Blood sprayed onto Theodoruk.  “Tiamat will feast on your soul, human!”  The shaman collapsed back, all strength spent by this last act of defiance.

“I am the Fist of Pelor”, said Theodoruk standing up.  With a single swift motion he lifted his heavy Maul high above his head and then brought it down onto the goblin.  “May Tiamat’s reward to you be merciless.”

Dark goblin blood filled cracks in the stone floor, spreading away from the shaman’s lifeless body.
